Author Biography

Cristóbal Gnecco, University of Cauca (UNICAUCA)

Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Cauca, he works on the political economy of archaeology, geopolitics of knowledge, discourses on otherness, and ethnographies of heritage. Currently directs the PhD program in Anthropology at the same university, was editor of the journal Arqueología Sudamericana (South American Archaeology), and translator of numerous renowned anthropological titles. Recently edited Los indios del Cauca. Una construcción etnográfica (1890-1956) (University of Cauca, Popayán, 2023); with Carina Jofré, Políticas patrimoniales y procesos de despojo y violencia en Latinoamérica (National University of the Center of the Province of Buenos Aires, Tandil, 2022); and with Mario Rufer, the book El tiempo de las ruinas (Editorial de la Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, 2023). Is currently working on two ongoing research projects, both related to the effects of patrimonialization processes: Qhapaq Ñan, a post-archaeological ethnography, and Heritage Meanings and Semiotic Struggles around the Jesuit-Guarani Missions. Is founding member of the Red de Información y Discusión en Arqueología y Patrimonio (RIDAP), and founder and editor of Memorias Disidentes: Revista de estudios críticos del patrimonio, archivos y memorias.
